Children’s Book Week Storywalk

August 2025

Geography Victoria was delighted to kick off Children’s Book Week with a fun and free family event in Flagstaff Gardens. On a crisp but clear Sunday, hundreds of children of all ages - along with their parents, grandparents, and friends - collected maps at the entrance and set off on a self-guided StoryWalk® through the park.

Following the map, families discovered colourful storyboards along the path, displaying the pages of We Live in a Bus by Dave Petzold, one of the CBCA Picture Book of the Year shortlisted titles.

Along the way, our friendly GV volunteers handed out stickers and offered dress-up opportunities, adding extra fun to the experience.

The event was a real highlight for us, bringing together Victoria’s youngest geographers to explore mapping and spatial skills while also fostering a love of reading and storytelling, outdoor activity, and intergenerational connection. Seeing so many families enjoying the gardens together in this way was a true reminder of the value of what we do.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The City of Melbourne and The City of Melbourne Libraries for their generous support in helping make this event possible.
