Special Members Event
01st January 2026
As a member of Geography Victoria, you are invited to participate in a very special event to start 2026!
Tour of The Royal Exhibition Building Dome Promenade &
Afternoon Tea at The Royal Society of Victoria (RSV)
Date: Sunday 1 February 2026
Spend a relaxed and inspiring afternoon with fellow RSV and Geography Victoria members in two of Melbourne's most iconic heritage-listed buildings from the 1800s. Designed by the celebrated architect Joseph Reed, these remarkable sites played a pivotal role in introducing Australia to the world, showcasing the nation's industry innovation and spirit of exploration.
Thanks to the extensive restoration works, the Royal Exhibition Building Dome Tours have been available again since late 2022, following almost a century of closure. The guided tour offers a captivating glimpse into the building's rich history, topped off with breathtaking 360° views across Melbourne – a rare perspective not to be missed.
Members are welcome to:
- Join the tour (meet at the Melbourne Museum foyer at 1:45 pm) and then walk to the RSV for afternoon tea ($25.00) or
- Just come along to the RSV for a get-together/gathering/afternoon tea from 3:00 pm ($10.00)
Register
The tour capacity is limited and interest is expected to be high, so please register early
Note: the upper dome promenade is not wheelchair accessible and requires climbing approximately 20 steps.

Members of Geography Victoria are invited to join the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia (RGSSA) on their 2026 seven-day tour of the Flinders Rangers to the edges of Lake Eyre South at the reduced RGSSA member's rate.
Dates: 10-16 March 2026
This highly regarded tour was run by the RGSSA last year, and it was so successful that it is being offered again. Travelling through the dramatic landscapes of the Flinders Ranges, the tour offers outstanding opportunities to explore the geomorphology, climate, water, ecology and human connection to place.
Be sure to read the detailed summary and view the photos from last year's tour here to gain an excellent sense of what to expect from this fabulous small-group experience.
This is a wonderful opportunity to travel with like-minded geographers and experience one of Australia's most extraordinary environments at a unique moment in time.
Geography Victoria members, instead of filling out the online form, please contact Joc Schmiechen, Head of Travel Royal Geographical Society South Australia, by email if interested in joining the tour. Email: jocs48@outlook.com
