Our Patron
Mr Rob Gell AM is a passionate geographer and the inaugural Patron of Geography Victoria. He is a coastal geomorphologist, specialising in the environmental processes that continually shape our coastlines. Rob completed his Science Degree at The University of Melbourne and then taught Environmental Science and Physical Geography at Melbourne State College and The University of Melbourne. He connected with people across Victoria in presenting television weather for thirty-one years. In his professional life today Rob works as an environmental, sustainability and communications consultant. Rob is President of the Royal Society of Victoria (RSV), a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an Inaugural Fellow of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand. For over two decades he was patron of the Geography Teachers' Association of Victoria. Rob has been part of Geography Victoria from the start - from initial conversations, to being a steering group member, to being a forceful advocate for Geog Vic. He was instrumental in auspicing Geog Vic to become the first 'affiliate' of the RSV. Rob has also given freely of his remarkable knowledge in co leading multiple Geography Victoria fieldtrips. He is a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to conservation, to the protection of coastal and marine environments, and to the community. |
